Psychological Association.
Designed to be used for self-study, as
continuing education, or as a component of a graduate course in ethics.
Uses the Canadian Code of Ethics for
Psychologists as a framework to review the major ethical expectations of
psychologists and members of other health disciplines, whether acting in the
role of scientist, practitioner, scientist-practitioner, teacher, or
manager/administrator.
Thirty-one case studies, reflecting a variety
of contexts and roles, are used to demonstrate ethical principles, ethical
values, and ethical decision making.
Course divided into seven Units, as follows:
Unit 1 – History and Purposes of Codes of
Ethics (4 Modules)
Unit 2 – Orientation to the Canadian Code
of Ethics for Psychologists (4 Modules)
Unit 3 – Respect for the Dignity of Persons
(10 Modules)
Unit 4 – Responsible Caring (9 Modules)
Unit 5 – Integrity in Relationships (8
Modules)
Unit 6 – Responsibility to Society (6 Modules)
Unit 7 – Ethical Decision Making (3 Modules)
Learning objectives include:
Achieving an enhanced appreciation for the
history and context of modern codes of ethics, including the influence of
culture and societal values on ethical principles and standards.
Understanding the differences between a code
of ethics and a code of conduct.
Becoming familiar with current ethical issues
and the ethical principles and values that help to identify and resolve those
issues.
Increasing skills in applying ethical
principles to all areas of activity as a psychologist.
Increasing skills in ethical decision making,
including managing personal biases and external pressures when making ethical
decisions.
Certificate of completion is generated for
those who complete the program with a 70% success rate on the progress quizzes
that follow each of the seven Units of the program.
Immediate feedback on your results. If your
score is below 70%, you have the option of reviewing the material and taking
the quiz again as many times as you wish (each time, the questions are drawn
from a pool of questions for the Unit).
The quiz following the seventh Unit draws
questions from all Units.
Course takes about 15 hours to complete, and
has been approved for 15 continuing education credits.
Course can be taken at your own pace (e.g.,
several Units in one day; one Unit every few days), but must be completed
within five weeks.
